When I opened my gelateria in 2014, many early customers assumed I was Italian. While I am an immigrant, I’m not Italian - I just love gelato. And while I certainly borrow from the rich Italian gelato tradition, my gelateria is an Angeleno through and through.
My adopted city directly inspired the flavors that some might say have become Gelateria Uli’s signatures. And I want to invite you to taste all of them!
In the month of May, you can come to either of our locations - DTLA (541 S. Spring St, Suite 104, 90013) or West Third St. (8044 W. 3rd St, 90048) - and order the ‘LA in a scoop’ in-store (no prior ticket purchase is necessary). We’re lining up eight of our favorite, L.A.-inspired flavors for you to enjoy in one go.
The flavors are:
Poblano, made by steeping hot, roasted poblano chilis in a sweet milk base
Coconut Lemongrass sorbet, inspired by Thai soup Tom kha from Jitlada in L.A.’s Thai-town. (Vegan)
Horchata, an ode to everyone's favorite Mexican drink
Jamaica Agua Fresca with Mint sorbet, another taqueria inspired flavor, this time it’s water-based with fresh mint (Vegan)
Saffron, an ode to L.A.’s Persian community, where the world’s most expensive spice is treasured
Black Sesame, inspired by black sesame buns from Chinese / Taiwanese restaurants in San Gabriel Valley
Ube, inspired by ube jam filled pastries in LA’s Historic Filipinotown
California Pistachio, Instead of using one of the many available Pistachio pastes produced by Italian ingredient makers, we source our pistachios from California’s oldest pistachio farm
